What Is Visionary Somatic Dance?

Visionary Somatic DanceTM begins with a simple premise: the wisdom you are looking for is already
within you. Through movement, breath, voice and embodied presence, you learn to listen again—to the
intelligence of your body, the wisdom of your heart and the creative impulse that has always known the
way.
But let’s take one step further back.

Somatics and Embodiment Aren’t the Same Thing

Somatics and embodiment are becoming familiar words in the coaching space. We all need to be embodied – in our bodies. To feel connected to ourselves rather than disconnected. If we
are very cerebral, always operating from the head, we’re not listening to what the messages of our body – disconnected, from the messages in our heart or our gut, from our sense of intuition.

When you’re in your body, you’re more present— a deep grounded presence that feels reassuring, calming to the nervous system. When you feel scattered, your energy is very different. You may feel disconnected – because we’re in this fast-paced culture of speed. You don’t see things coming, you rush around, you crash into things, that’s when accidents happen.

Somatics goes deeper into the listening and awareness of what’s happening within us — the interoception, the small signals, the micro movements happening at any given time. Even meditation practices begin with the breath, tracking it all the way into different parts of the body.

This is why somatics has become synonymous with trauma. The traumas we experience don’t just stay in the memories of our brain — they’re held in the cellular memory, the stories, hopes, dreams, fears held in the cells of the body. But our bodies have so much more.

The Transpersonal Opening

Somatics points to a deeper intelligence we can access — not just to process our emotions, but to listen into our own intuitive knowing.

Beyond the narrow, myopic view we get stuck in day to day, into the bigger picture of our own life. To recognize the signals our body gives us, and trust them.

To access parts of ourselves we had forgotten existed.

People have reached these deeper states for centuries — in ceremony, in meditation, in trance.  We reach it through movement, breath and attention. Our body is a portal.

What Makes It Visionary?

Visionary somatic dance gives us this: a way to recognize and open up to the infinite possibility that is
within us. It’s an act of accessing our higher self, connecting back to the wisdom of our hearts.

When we connect back into ourselves through somatic dance, and — through the lens of the intelligence
of the heart — we don’t come from a place of fear, we don’t let our lower self dictate what we think.

We access the higher intelligence that comes from a place of openness, possibility and love. And from that place we can access infinite creativity, abundance and joy.

We reclaim our sovereign power – to create, lead, relate, and live in the way we choose.

My research

My final research for my MA in dance and somatic wellbeing was on the feeling of being alive.

I looked into ancient scriptures, quantum physics, our energetic being, levels of consciousness, chakras — and
ultimately it all led back to the heart,

the wisdom of our heart.

What this isn't

Visionary somatic dance goes far beyond the celebratory aspect of ecstatic dance — it takes you to deeper levels of yourself, that can be profound, enlightening, expansive, connecting and inspiring, giving you new insights and downloads.

Dance movement therapy only focuses on traditional Western psychotherapeutic models. This looks at ancient and modern wisdom schools. Movement, conscious movement, dance somatics goes far beyond, and before, the teachings of any one particular person.

There are many pioneers in the somatics field who have spent time in the East and in different cultures, who have challenged mainstream medicine, looked at alternative schools of thought. But the way I’ve done it, it’s very grounded — not all in your head. It’s visionary, but grounded in your body.

The framework

Why I created Niio Dance and visionary somatic dance. Dance has always been my guiding north star, from when I was a young girl, and to return to it now has been a natural evolution on my own journey.

I’ve created a simple framework: you connect to your body first – you work through your emotions to alchemise – you find your true voice, allow yourself to express and find your creative power.

Within that framework there’s also a more specific internal structure — the roots and wings body map — where we work through grounding, breath, structural integrity, fluidity, power, compassion, connection.

These are the essential building blocks to come home to ourselves.
It’s ancient, and it’s modern — it integrates neurosomatics and neuroscience, and it also looks at the creative and expressive arts.

Who this is for

I’ve created this because I want to give people an accessible way to discover the beauty, magic and mystery in life.

It gives us permission to take time out from our crazy busy lifestyles. It’s for people who know there’s more creativity and depth waiting within them — who have a mission, a passion, who want to do things for the greater good of this planet. There’s so much that saddens us on this earth, and this gives you the possibility to see a different way.

These are for the dreamers, the rebels, those who question the status quo, those who want to create a better life,

who want to help create a better world.
